When Women Stand, nations rise.
Stand By Her
Stand By Her is a gender equality advocacy campaign by COWA Uganda, created to inform, inspire, and strengthen communities in Kampala and Wakiso.
The campaign encourages women and men to work together in building fairer homes, safer communities, inclusive learning spaces, and equal opportunities for all.
A Campaign for Equality, Understanding, and Change
Uganda continues to face social and economic challenges that affect families, young people, women, men, and entire communities. These challenges include poverty, gender inequality, limited access to education, limited access to healthcare, and unequal opportunities for women and girls.
The Stand By Her Campaign responds to these realities by creating simple, practical, and inspiring conversations around gender equality.
The campaign is built on one clear belief: women and men are both agents of change. Gender equality is not about women standing alone. It is about families, schools, workplaces, and communities working together to create fairer opportunities and better futures.
Through podcasts, WhatsApp community messages, flyers, infographics, video spots, and community engagement, Stand By Her shares messages that people can understand, discuss, and act on.
Why Stand By Her Matters
Gender equality begins with the everyday choices people make at home, in school, at work, and in the community.
When women are supported, families grow stronger. When men become allies, communities become fairer. When girls and boys are given equal opportunities, society moves forward.
Shared Responsibility at Home
Equality begins in the home through shared household duties, shared decisions, and mutual respect.
Access to Education and Skills
Girls and women deserve access to education, vocational training, and practical skills that support independence and growth.
Positive Mindset Change
The campaign helps women and men challenge harmful stereotypes and build more respectful relationships.
Equal Professional Opportunities
Women should be supported to participate in all sectors, including careers traditionally viewed as male-dominated.
Community Inspiration
Real stories of women, male allies, and supportive institutions can motivate others to take action.
Five Themes for Change
The Stand By Her Campaign is guided by five key themes identified through a gender assessment in Kampala and Wakiso. These themes address everyday realities that shape equality in homes, learning spaces, workplaces, and communities.
